The Directors

Please note that the Young Vic Directors Program is open to all directors at an early stage of their career. The only criteria for joining is that they consider themselves professional directors, are not in full time education and are resident in the UK. It is important that when using this list detailed references are taken up as presence on this list is not in itself a recommendation.

  5. Olivier Pierre*
    Olivier Pierre - Photo
background: I trained as an actor at Le Conservatoire Gabriel Fauré in Paris and as a dancer (Modern Jazz/Tap dance) at different schools in Paris, Madrid and Broadway, NYC, during many years.

For a living, I've been working as an Administrator and Project Coordinator in different companies in Paris, Madrid and Barcelona. None of them was related to Arts; though I acquired strong organizational and communication skills.

Back in 2003, I directed my first short film "Mañana lo dejo" (Tomorrow I quit) which ended up runner-up at the Madrid Young Creatives Contest.

Since I arrived in London in 2007, I’ve directed my first short film in English "Tea Would Be Lovely" for a Youtube contest (near 130,000 hits).

In 2009 I directed my first play "Reasons to hide" by Nina Rapi, presented at the Tristan Bates Theatre, opening a weekend celebration of Contemporary Greek Theatre (new writings) and received a good review by Howard Loxton from the British Theatre Guide.

I then worked as a Technical Director and Stage Manager for Brand Magazine (show/launch party) at the Southbank London Literature Festival.

My interest in production has increased dramatically since I've come to realize that it is fundamental for me as a director to understand how a production works (budgeting, scheduling, managing...) and who are the key people that any project needs to be successful.

I'm currently working as a freelance Producer for a project commissioned by Kent County Council and created by Mikhail Karikis called "Xenon: an exploded Opera” presented in a fragmentary form and across the 6 festivals compromising The East Kent Festival Cluster: Sounds New Contemporary Music Festival (May), Whitstable Biennale (June), Deal Festival (July), Strange Cargo Carnival (July), Broadstairs Folk Week Festival (August), Canterbury Festival (October).

I'm also attending a Production Management course at Four Corners.
additional skills related to directing: Play an instrument, Movement, Design
experienced in: New writing, Devising, Performance Art
other skills related to directing: Video
other skills: Filmmaker, Editor (FCP), Songwriter, Graphic Designer.
