Please note that the Young Vic Directors Program is open to all directors at an early stage of their career. The only criteria for joining is that they consider themselves professional directors, are not in full time education and are resident in the UK. It is important that when using this list detailed references are taken up as presence on this list is not in itself a recommendation.

My artistic vision is to make a difference for the audience experiencing my work. That could be to bring up a political issue in daylight or to look at an everyday issue from a different angle. Give an audience a moment of recognition or something new to think about. Amuse as well as to disturb. The performances that move me the most are the ones where the performers show fragility, are emotionally engaged and take risks in front of the audience. It is this type of work I'm striving to make.

background: Studied Stage Management and Directing for four years in University in USA.Last logged in 6/9/2010
Directed professionaly for a year in US before coming to London.
In London, Trained at East 15 Acting School where I recieved my MFA in Theatre Directing. This included a stint in Moscow, Russia with the GITIS Acadamey of Arts studying Stanislavski and Meyerhold.
During this two year program I also became a writer under the guidance of Mick Gordon, and directed my own show at the Lion and Unicorn Pub Theatre and Soho Theatre Studio Upstairs.
My approach in working on new writing, as both director and writer, is to treat text as an equal tool in a collaborative process between all the other elements; movement, space, lighting, sound, and audience, and attempting to move the writer/production to that approach with me. To simplify, a happy medium between 'text based' theatre and physical theatre.

THE RAT TRAP Noel Coward. Dir: Tim Lusombe, at the Finborough Theatre. This was the first production since 1926 by special permission of the Noel Coward estate. It was awarded Time Out Critics Choice.
I also have directed a rehearsed reading of a new play 'Never Lies'.
Although my training was centred around straight theatre, I also have a strong interest in musicals. I am currently working on a series of workshops looking at West Side Story within a contemporary setting.
I direct because I love to tell a story that will move an audience and to present the truths of life according to a particular set of people and circumstances. I love discovering this story through rehearsal and then see it being realised in performance.

background: I studied English Literature at Cambridge, graduating in 1992 with a Double First, whilst there I directed, designed and acted in 10 productions, including a European tour of Henry V. I then travelled widely working with several of Grotowski's collaborators in Eastern Europe and West Bengal, before returning to the UK and working for five years as a storyteller, writing and performing my own one-woman shows. Subsequently I trained in Voice at Central School of Speech and Drama, with Distinction, and was hired straight away by the department to train new voice teachers in voice and movement combined. I also trained actors in voice and text at several other leading uk Drama Schools, including running the voice department at ALRA. In 2000 I moved to Paris to train for a year with Philippe Gaulier and then stayed in Paris for the next 5 years, coaching actors, training in more Stanislawski based techniques and starting to work as an actor. I returned to London a year ago and continue to work as a voice and acting coach, but now wish to develop a career as a theatre director. I have directed two productions since returning, Sleuth for Theatre les Salons in Geneva in January 2007 and (co-directed) A Respectable Wedding at Oxford School of Drama in April 2007. I also workshopped a new adaptation of La Ronde in March 2007. I have also taken director training workshops with Mike Alfreds, Katie Mitchell, Tatiana Olear, John Wright and Lilo Baur. I wish to join the Genesis project as part of the great inspiration and pleasure of the directing workshops has been meeting and discussing with other directors at the start of their careers.
