Please note that the Young Vic Directors Program is open to all directors at an early stage of their career. The only criteria for joining is that they consider themselves professional directors, are not in full time education and are resident in the UK. It is important that when using this list detailed references are taken up as presence on this list is not in itself a recommendation.

background: I studied English Literature at University (Kings College, London) before working and then training with Jacques Lecoq in Paris.Last logged in 3/9/2010
On returning to London, I began my career as an actor working with the Clod Ensemble, and have since worked at the Gate, the Lyric Hammersmith, the Young Vic and the RNT Studio. I still work as an actor and the experiences I have working with other directors and practices very much feeds into my own.
I began directing on a children's project, and have since directed for the education departments of both Royal Opera House and the ENO as well as devising touring productions for TIE.
This year, after six years of collaborating together under the guidance of the Bridewell Theatre company and Carol Metcalfe, composer Osnat Schmool and I set up Filament Theatre which fuses devised physical performance with polyphonic music. We are working on two shows at the moment: a tour of Drive Ride Walk which will take place in Autumn 2010 and continuing to develop One Dark Night, which we 'scratched' at the Tete a Tete Opera Festival in August 2009 and which we are developing further for Summer 2010. We are supported by Greenwich Theatre.

background: I recently graduated with a First class BA in Drama & Theatre Arts from Goldsmiths College.Last logged in 5/9/2010
As a director, I am interested in adapting text for the stage, new writing, issue based theatre, as well as devised work. I also have a particular interest in Theatre of the Holocaust. I enjoy adapting text and finding a performance language for a text that was not precisely written for the stage but which has potential to create an atmosphere and set of experiences for an audience. I am also interested in creating site-specific work.
I am an emerging director who enjoys creative collaboration with actors and designers, and the process of story-telling. I am always looking to develop myself as a practitioner; I recently attended a Making Political Theatre Workshop at Soho Theatre, and an Artist Development Workshop, organised by theatre company Real Circumstance, where I directed a rehearsed reading of a new play with the writer and a group of actors.
Presently, I am looking for directing opportunities, and I am particularly interested in new writing, the use of puppetry, and textual adaptations. I am currently assistant director for Sitcom Saturday rehearsed readings in June 2010.
I am also a Volunteer Arts Practitioner for ChickenShed Theatre Co. (Peckham Shed) and Creative Learning Assistant at Churchill Theatre Bromley.

I have experience working with Forum theatre as an actor. I am currently learning the skills of the Joker and hope to direct plays and facilitate workshops using Theatre of the Oppressed techniques.
I teach/facilitate drama sessions with young children at a community centre in East London to teach drama skills, enhance their communication skills and improve confidence but most importantly to have fun.
My BA is in American Theatre. I have studied American playwrights and theatre practitioners; the issues raised within their work and how it relates to the the world they live in.
As an actress and director I have worked with a range of material by American and European playwrights, such as August Strindberg and Christopher Shinn.
Through training I have learnt the importance of my role as part of an ensemble. This has led to my role as an actor and now as a writer and director. I am constantly learning and exploring new avenues within the theatre.
