Please note that the Young Vic Directors Program is open to all directors at an early stage of their career. The only criteria for joining is that they consider themselves professional directors, are not in full time education and are resident in the UK. It is important that when using this list detailed references are taken up as presence on this list is not in itself a recommendation.

I am on the directing strand of the MA Advanced Theatre Practice course at the Central School of Speech & Drama.
THEN
I graduated with a 2:1 English Literature and Language Honours degree in 2007 from the University of Oxford.
Since leaving University I have assisted on ANGRY YOUNG MAN, written and directed by Ben Woolf for Trafalgar Studios 2 and SHADOW LANGUAGE, a new play by American playwright Kelly Stuart, directed by Tim Stark, for Theatre 503.
Whilst at University I was heavily involved in directing several sell-out student productions. I always worked on productions that were, in every way, ambitious: from directing six of Beckett’s short plays (comprising of ROUGH FOR THEATRE 2, CATASTROPHE, FOOTFALLS, COME AND GO, A PIECE OF MONOLOGUE, and NOT I), using an ensemble cast of only six, to transforming a small studio space into a 1920s New York telephone exchange for SWITCH TRIPTYCH (which was shortlisted for the 2007 National Student Drama Festival).
I also directed Mark Ravenhill's PRODUCT and radical modern reworkings of Max Frisch's THE FIRERAISERS and Franz Kafka's METAMORPHOSIS for the Oxford Playhouse Studio.

I am very proactive and am always seeking new opportunities, building new contacts and creating new work. During my time at Pilot I have visited a number of regional theatres and have made connections with artistic directors in the hope of taking future work there.
I very much enjoy a variety of styles and genres of work and would love the opportunity to expand my repertoire by working as an assistant to directors I admire. I would also love to embark on projects of my own, creating new work and ensuring a successful career.

Approach to Directing :
I believe very much in using the body as a whole (voice, physicality, movement) to serve the play. It also serves the actor in employing his whole instrument, and provides further layers to text work by looking beyond the words; strong visual context that both underscores and enhances the play is an integral part of my production philosophy. Faithfulness to the text is paramount.
Directed several productions and public playreadings, observed at the English National Opera (Ring Cycle).
Lead workshops in directing, acting and Asian theatre*, and do a certain amount of teaching at adult education colleges and international schools (Europe, Asia)
