Please note that the Young Vic Directors Program is open to all directors at an early stage of their career. The only criteria for joining is that they consider themselves professional directors, are not in full time education and are resident in the UK. It is important that when using this list detailed references are taken up as presence on this list is not in itself a recommendation.

background: My 2010 project for my theatre company, The Boudoir Noir, is a triple-bill of apparently unperformable plays by Gertrude Stein, but I assure you they will become overperformable plays.Last logged in 13/1/2010
Talking of which, one of my last productions was Caryl Churchill's 'This is a Chair'.
'Biba Lille-West directs Caryl Churchill's sketch-y creation with imagination, deconstructing the boundaries of performance and playing on the audience's uncertainty...a disconcerting, unfinished, but absorbing play.' The Stage
I love any opportunity to give birth to productions of unwieldy, unperformable texts simply because it's always about challenging ways of seeing, and what theatre can be. Female empowerment features strongly in my work and how I go about it.
I did an MA in directing at Middlesex University. I was inspired to create theatre as a teenager by the idiosyncratic dance practitioners of the 1980s like Michael Clark, Lea Anderson, Matthew Bourne and Laurie Booth. I started directing in the 90s, taking original work/adaptations of classics across the UK and Europe. I then did an MA in theatre directing to broaden my scope.
I've also worked in new writing, and in opera as assistant director at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Bath Theatre Royal and the English Haydn Festival in Bridgnorth; plus as director of 'The Vienna Show' at the Bush Hall.
For nearly 20 years I was, and am still occasionally, a working actor - so I am excellent at guiding actors to a good performance. In my twenties I was also a semi-professional contemporary dancer and now aged 40 I have naturally become a semi-professional swing dancer! Never say never! Jazz, Lindy Hop and other dances from the 1920s to the 1950s. What I can provide you with is rigour, energy, dedication, detail, lust for life and complete contempt for ageism!
